Scientific Achievement: A novel combo-kit has been developed to screen plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR): It is the first kind of kit developed for rapid screening of PGPR. Six (6) of thermo-tolerant plant-growth promoting fungi (PGPF) from hot springs of Odisha was registered in National Fungal Culture Collection of India (NFCCI), Pune. One (1) of novel strain of Rhizoctonia solani strain KM1 is registered in NFCCI, Pune with accession no. NFCCI-3444. Six (6) of novel strain of phosphate solubilizing and siderophore producing fungi from rice rhizosphere was registered in Microbial Type culture Collection (MTCC), Chandigarh, India. 89 BGA (Blue Green Algae) germplasms are maintained in fluorescent light chamber (Since 2011). 102 stains of Azolla are maintained in net house of ICAR-NRRI, Cuttack (Odisha) (Since 2014). Forty three (43) novel strains of bacteria and fungi are registered in NCBI Gene bank with Accession number: JQ952670-JQ952674 (5); KF577865- KF577877 (13); KJ652019- KJ652025 (7); KM261751- KM261765 (18) (Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/).Anaerobic/uncultivable osmotic/oxic stress tolerant microbial resources were mapped from rice ecologies. Detecting the functional and metaomics diversity of stress tolerant (osmotic/oxic) PGPR under rice ecology. Analyzed the effect of newly introduced herbicides on soil microbes under rice ecosystem. Observing the long-term effect of pesticides (chlorpyrifos, carbadazim, cartap and pretilachlor) on soil microbes since 2009-2010 under rice-rice cropping system. Comparing and analyzing the soil microbial community in long-term fertilizer experiment and organically amended nutrient soil under rice-rice cropping system. Characterization and maintenance of Azolla germpasms.

Maulin P. Shah, currently Chief Scientist & Head – Industrial Waste Water Research Lab, Division of Applied and Environmental Microbiology Lab at Enviro Technology Ltd., Ankleshwar, Gujarat, India, received his Ph.D. (2002-2005) in Environmental Microbiology from Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat. He has served as an Assistant Professor at Godhra, Gujarat University in 2001. He is a Microbial Biotechnologist with diverse research interest. A group of research scholars is working under his guidance on the areas ranging from Applied Microbiology, Environmental Biotechnology, Bioremediation, and Industrial Liquid Waste Management to solid state fermentation. My primary interest is the environment, the quality of our living resources and the ways that bacteria can help to manage and degrade toxic wastes and restore environmental health. Consequently, I am very interested in genetic adaptation processes in bacteria, the mechanisms by which they deal with toxic substances, how they react to pollution in general and how we can apply microbial processes in a useful way (like bacterial bioreporters). One of our major interests is to study how bacteria evolve and adapt to use organic pollutants as novel growth substrates. Bacteria with new degradation capabilities are often selected in polluted environments and have accumulated small (mutations) and large genetic changes (transpositions, recombination, and horizontally transferred elements). His work has been focused to assess the impact of industrial pollution on microbial diversity of wastewater following cultivation dependant and cultivation independent analysis. His major work involves isolation, screening, identification and Genetic Engineering of high impact of Microbes for the degradation of hazardous materials. He has more than 200 research publication in highly reputed national and international journals. He directs the Research program at Enviro Technology Ltd., Ankleshwar. He has guided more than 100 Post Graduate students in various disciplines of Life Science. He is an active Editorial Board Member in more than 150 highly reputed Journal’s in the field of Environmental & Biological Sciences. He was Founder Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Environmental Bioremediation and Biodegradation (2012-2014) as well as Journal of Applied and Environmental Microbiology (2012-2014) (Science and Education Publishing, USA). He is also serving as a reviewer in various journals of national and international repute. Recently, he has been awarded as a Young Biotechnologist Medal by Biotechnological Society of Nepal”. Dr. Blanca Aguilar Uscanga is Biochemical Engineer in Food, has a Masters in Food Science (1991-1994), graduated from the Institute Technologic of Veracruz (ITV). She completed his doctoral studies in the specialty of Biotechnology in the National Institute of the Sciences Appliqués of Toulouse in France (1999-2003).
She is currently research professor and full time at the University of Guadalajara in the Centro Universitario de Ciencias Exactas e Ingenierías (CUCEI). The Dr. Aguilar, also teaches courses to the students in Pharmaceutical chemist and the Doctorate of Biotechnology Processes.
She belongs to the National System of Researchers in Mexico level 1, recognized by CONACYT. The research areas in which it working is: Food Biotechnology and Industrial Microbiology, which cover different lines of research such as: Obtaining bioactive compounds and metabolites of industrial importance, for the fermentative via, for the production and development of functional foods, fermented beverages, prebiotics, probiotics and food safety.
Dr. Aguilar Uscanga works in collaboration with various national institutions in México, such as the Technological Institute of Veracruz, Technological Institute of Tepic, Technological Institute of Tierra Blanca and ITSM Querétaro. Also has international collaboration with Institute Armand Frappier, Laval and Institute of Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods (INAF) in Quebec Canada.
